Strategic Plan

The Golden Years Society, established in 1976 and located in Fort McMurray, Alberta, is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Over the years, it has grown into a central hub for the senior community, offering a wide range of programs and activities designed to promote wellness and fellowship among its members.
The Society's mission is to focus on every aspect of seniors' lives, striving to enhance and maintain their well-being through various social and recreational activities. These include weekly luncheons, card nights, bocce ball, bowling, arts and crafts, outings, chair yoga, coffee times, social events, games, and choir sessions. Additionally, the Society hosts health clinics and special events such as senior month activities, ensuring that seniors have access to resources
that support their health and social needs.
Membership at the Golden Years Society is open to individuals aged 65 and older, with an annual fee of $60.00 The Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and employs a dedicated staff member to oversee its operations and programs. The Society also supports low-income seniors
by providing volunteer-run income tax services.
As a vital part of the Fort McMurray community, the Golden Years Society has celebrated significant milestones, including its upcoming 50th Anniversary.
It continues to serve as a place where seniors can create lasting memories, engage in meaningful activities, and receive support from a compassionate community.

The Golden Years Society Board of Directors crafted this strategic plan after holding multiple in-depth reflection and planning sessions in June 2024.
The Society will implement initiatives between 2024 and 2026 to achieve the objectives and outcomes outlined in this plan.
